South Dakota is a beautiful state. The Badlands are so unique. If you are a Star Wars fan like we are, it truly feels like you are walking around Tatooine (where Anakin and Luke were from). For you non Star Wars fans, you feel like you are on another planet. We did several hikes while in the Badlands that provided beautiful views. While in the area we also had a meal at the famous Wall Drug in Wall, SD. They are known for their free ice water and 5 cent coffee. Our next stop was Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park. We drove needle highway through the Black Hills for beautiful views. There were some very narrow tunnels on this road including the “eye of the needle” tunnel that set my car sensors off because the walls were so close. Custer State Park was beautiful with the leaves beginning to change color, deer in the middle of the road and the gorgeous Sylvan Lake. Our last stop in SD was Mt. Rushmore where we looked upon amazing carvings of 4 of our former Presidents.
